With landlords facing higher costs for taxes, property maintenance, and other rising expenses, The NYC Rent Guidelines Board approved the highest housing rent increase in almost a decade.

The board voted to raise rents on one-year leases by 3.25 percent in rent-stabilized homes, and on two-year leases by 5 percent. This affects roughly 2 million New York City residents. The increases will apply to leases that begin on or after October 1st.
