As a professional driver in New York City, your license is your livelihood. That’s why IDG is now offering the Vision Zero Accessibility TLC class – a course designed to help you stay safe on the road, avoid fines, and keep your TLC license in good standing.
Whether you got a letter from the TLC or just want to be proactive, this class might be the key to keeping your license and income secure.
What Is the Vision Zero Accessibility TLC Class?
The Vision Zero Accessibility class is a new course approved by the Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC). It focuses on the rules of the road, accessibility awareness, and how to help passengers who have disabilities. The course is part of the city’s larger Vision Zero campaign to eliminate traffic deaths and make the streets safer for all.
It’s also a class that helps drivers better understand what to do when it comes to handling wheelchairs, service animals, and how to give extra care to people who may need more time or help getting in and out of your car.
In short: the class teaches you how to stay on the right side of the rules and protect the people in your back seat.
Do Uber/Lyft Drivers Have to Take This Class?
Here’s the big question: Is it mandatory?
The answer is: it depends.
Some drivers are required to take the Vision Zero Accessibility class if they’ve had:
- A TLC complaint or violation related to accessibility
- Certain customer service violations
- A summons from the TLC asking them to take this course
If you’ve received a letter or email from the TLC telling you to take this class, then yes, you must take it. And you must complete it by the deadline they gave you, or you could lose your license or face fines.
But even if it’s not required for you right now, taking this class voluntarily can show the TLC that you’re serious about safety and good service. It can also help you avoid problems in the future.
Why Should I Take It with IDG?
