IDG Legal is helping drivers with DMV and TLC suspended licenses. An IDG Legal preferred lawyer will find out the reasons why your license was suspended and work for you to get your license back. To help you make the right choice for you, here are some frequently asked questions about this service.

Q. How much does this service cost?

It costs $40 for an IDG Legal preferred lawyer to find the cause of a DMV suspended license. For TLC licenses and TLC suspended vehicle licenses, the cost is free. Rates for DMV suspended licenses may increase slightly depending on the level of investigation. These are discussed and agreed upon prior to any investigation. Additional services that are required to resolve the DMV suspended license, will be at IDG Legal discounted rates.

Q. What can a lawyer help me with?

Preferred IDG Legal attorneys will investigate the cause of your suspended license through online sources, telephone calls, and direct lines to the court system and DMV. The attorney will explain the reasons for your suspended license and provide you with the steps necessary to clear any open suspensions. The attorney will also answer any questions you have about the individual suspensions.

Q. What’s the process?

Submit this form. We will connect you with an IDG Legal preferred lawyer who will contact you before retrieving your driving record (Abstract of Driving Record, “Abstract”). After reviewing your Abstract, the lawyer will let you know the reasons behind your suspension and what steps you should take. You will be able to keep the PDF of your Abstract.

Q. What is a driving “Abstract”?

An ‘abstract’ is a printed copy of your driving record. Your abstract will display only information defined as public records in the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Q. How will I know if my license is suspended?

If your DMV driver’s license has been suspended or revoked, the DMV will send a notice (which they call an ‘order’) to the address they have on file for you.

Q. How do I get help for a suspended TLC license or TLC Vehicle License?

For assistance with TLC license and/or vehicle suspensions, select “TLC License” when completing the form on this page.

Q. How long does the process take?

The time it takes to clear a suspension can vary, based on the offense. Therefore, it is impossible to give a set time for the full process to be completed.

Q. If my license is suspended, what are my restrictions?

If you drive while your DMV license is suspended in New York, you could face serious penalties. It is a crime called Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (AUO). A first-time offense can be charged with AUO 3rd Degree, which is a misdemeanor that can carry a penalty of up to 30 days imprisonment or probation. A charge of AUO 2nd Degree can result in a fine between $500 and $1,000, and mandatory imprisonment which can last up to 180 days. A charge of AUO 1st Degree is a felony offense carrying mandatory imprisonment for up to four years and the potential seizure of your vehicle.
