About Us

IDG Legal is a project of the Independent Drivers Guild (IDG). We were created to focus on providing drivers with affordable — often free — legal services and resources from qualified lawyers who understand the rideshare business and the unique challenges faced by drivers.

We maintain a network of lawyers and partner with non-profit organizations that all have legal expertise regarding issues that drivers face. Before joining our network, they are thoroughly reviewed by IDG Legal to make sure they provide excellent service and attention and will work hard to achieve the best results possible for the drivers who contact us.

If you get a traffic ticket, we can connect you with a lawyer who can help you challenge an NYPD traffic ticket for a moving violation.

In addition to the NYPD, there is also the Taxi & Limousine Commission, (TLC) which issues its own tickets and penalties. IDG Legal can provide an experienced TLC representative who can help you understand how to fight your TLC ticket and your rights as a driver.

If you are in a car accident we will provide a lawyer who can advise you on your rights and responsibilities as a rideshare driver.

And if you are injured while driving, we can provide a lawyer who can help you get financial support for medical bills and lost income from The Black Card Fund by applying for Workers’ Compensation benefits.

Our resources not only cover the issues related to working as a driver, but also those that impact a driver’s home and life. Through IDG Legal, a pro bono lawyer can assist you with housing issues such as an eviction notice, and understand any legal documents from your landlord, including leases and letters.

We have also partnered with a non-profit organization to help drivers with free immigration-related legal issues such as Citizenship application assistance (N-400), Green Card applications for refugees and asylees (I-485), renewal of Green Cards (I-90), and
DACA renewal.

While it’s been 20 years since the 9/11 attacks, the health effects of the smoke, dust, and debris are still taking their toll among those who were working there. IDG Legal partnered with a law firm to help enroll eligible drivers to receive assistance from the 9/ll Compensation Fund, for related health conditions and get much-needed health assistance, for drivers working below Houston Street and around Staten Island’s Freshkills area between 9/11/01 and 7/31/02.

These are just a few of our legal services. View the full list here, and fill out a form here if you need immediate legal assistance.
