The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced an increase in the extension period for employment authorization and Employment Authorization Documents to up to 540 days, starting on May 4th, 2022. The increase is intended to assist in avoiding gaps in employment for non-citizens with pending renewal applications. 

What is the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)?

The USCIS is the Government Agency that is in charge of administering and organizing lawful immigration to the United States. They do things like processing immigration and naturalization applications, as well as establishing the policies regarding immigration services.

What Is A Work Permit?

A Work Permit is an official document from the U.S. Government that authorizes immigrants to work in the United States. It is administered by the USCIS as a photo identity card and is also referred to as an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

How Can I Apply For A Work Permit?

To request employment authorization and an Employment Authorization Document from the USCIS, fill out a Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) here. Other noncitizens whose immigration status authorizes them to work in the United States without restrictions may also use Form I-765 to apply for an EAD that shows such authorization.
