Spring is here! Just like your home, your car needs a good seasonal cleaning to shake off winter’s mess. If you rely on your car for work – especially as an Uber, Lyft, or delivery driver – keeping it in top shape isn’t just about looks; it’s about safety, comfort, and avoiding costly repairs.

Here’s your essential spring cleaning checklist to keep your car running smoothly into the warmer months.

1. Wash Away Winter’s Dirt

Winter roads leave behind salt, grime, and dirt, which can damage your car’s paint and cause rust.

  • Give it a deep clean. A proper wash, including the undercarriage, helps prevent corrosion.
  • Wax it up. A layer of wax protects your car’s exterior from rain and sun damage.

Bonus Tip: If you don’t have time for a full car wash, at least spray off the salt underneath – this is where rust hides.

2. Check & Change Your Fluids

Winter driving can put extra strain on your engine. Spring is the perfect time to check and top off all fluids.

  • Oil change. If it’s been a while, fresh oil keeps your engine running smoothly.
  • Coolant check. Warmer days mean your cooling system needs to work properly.
  • Wiper fluid refill. Spring showers = more use of your windshield wipers.

3. Inspect Your Tires

Cold weather can cause tire pressure to drop, and potholes can knock your wheels out of alignment.

  • Check tire pressure. Underinflated tires affect fuel efficiency and safety.
  • Rotate or replace tires. If you used winter tires, switch back to all-season ones.
  • Look for damage. Check for cracks or worn-out tread that could lead to blowouts.

Bonus Tip: If your car shakes or pulls to one side, it might need a wheel alignment.

4. Clean the Interior

Passengers are a part of your daily routine; so your car’s interior deserves a refresh too.

  • Vacuum thoroughly. Salt, mud, and dust collect in carpets and seats.
  • Wipe down surfaces. Steering wheels, dashboards, and door handles get grimy fast.
  • Check for clutter. Remove anything you don’t need to keep your car neat.
  • A new air freshener or a deep clean of your vents will make your car smell brand new.

5. Test Your Lights & Wipers

Spring brings longer days but also unpredictable rain. Make sure your visibility stays clear.

  • Check headlights and brake lights. Dim or burnt-out lights are a safety risk (and can get you a ticket).
  • Replace wiper blades. If they leave streaks, it’s time for a new pair.

Bonus Tip: A quick check in the dark will help you spot any weak or broken lights.

6. Under-the-Hood Inspection

Even if you’re not a car expert, a quick look can help prevent future breakdowns.

  • Battery check. Winter cold weakens batteries; make sure yours is charged.
  • Belts and hoses. Scan for cracks or leaks that might cause overheating.
  • Air filter replacement. A clean filter improves fuel efficiency and air quality.

7. Emergency Kit Refresh

A new season means updating your emergency supplies.

  • Swap out winter gear. Remove any blankets, snow gear, or floor mats.
  • Restock first aid kit. Bandages, wipes, and basic medicines should be up to date.
  • Keep jumper cables, flashlight & basic tools. These are useful year-round.

Bonus Tip: Better safe than sorry! Always have water and a phone charger on hand.
