As a rideshare driver, you are on the road more often than most people. Naturally, this may mean you get pulled over by the police for a traffic stop while working.
To ensure a safe experience if you are pulled over, it is important that you understand what to do – and what not to do.
Do’s
Begin to pull over the moment you see flashing lights and hear sirens. If you are in a lane that is not close to the right shoulder, slow down and use your signals to inform the officer you are trying to pull over.
- Once pulled over you need to:
- Turn off your engine.
- Turn on your hazards.
- Roll down your window.
- Place your hands on the steering wheel.
- Have your license and registration in a handy location, and let the officer know where the documents are located before reaching for them. After giving the officer your documents, place your hands back on the steering wheel.
- If you are pulled over at night, you can put your vehicle interior lights on.
Don’ts
- Do not get out of your vehicle unless the police officer asks you to do so.
- Let the officer do the talking, and answer any possible questions they may have.
- Do not sound hostile when speaking to the police officer.
