As a rideshare driver, you are on the road more often than most people. Naturally, this may mean you get pulled over by the police for a traffic stop while working.

To ensure a safe experience if you are pulled over, it is important that you understand what to do – and what not to do.

Do’s

Begin to pull over the moment you see flashing lights and hear sirens. If you are in a lane that is not close to the right shoulder, slow down and use your signals to inform the officer you are trying to pull over.

  1. Once pulled over you need to:
    • Turn off your engine.
    • Turn on your hazards.
    • Roll down your window.
    • Place your hands on the steering wheel.
  2. Have your license and registration in a handy location, and let the officer know where the documents are located before reaching for them. After giving the officer your documents, place your hands back on the steering wheel.
  3. If you are pulled over at night, you can put your vehicle interior lights on.

Don’ts

  1. Do not get out of your vehicle unless the police officer asks you to do so.
  2. Let the officer do the talking, and answer any possible questions they may have.
  3. Do not sound hostile when speaking to the police officer.
