Unfortunately, there are many safety risks as a rideshare driver. Besides car accidents, drivers could face assault, robbery, and inebriated passengers who become violent; all possible reasons drivers can be hurt on the job.
Safety Tips
In case you are ever in these types of situations, please read these tips to ensure your safety while picking up and dropping off riders:
1. Install a Dash Cam that can record everything that occurs inside of your vehicle, and on the road ahead of your vehicle.
If a rider is aware that they are being recorded, it will motivate them to be on their best behavior. ALSO – if there’s an incident that requires police intervention or the involvement of your insurance company, the video from your dash cam will be useful in providing necessary evidence.
2. Utilize the Safety Hub in your base app.
Most popular rideshare apps give drivers easy access to safety features such as the ability to call emergency services, the ability to monitor the location of your vehicle, and the ability to share your location with loved ones for tracking.
3. Install a GPS Receiver to track your vehicle’s location.
This can be beneficial in the case that your vehicle is stolen from you, and can possibly encourage your insurance company to offer you a lower premium.
4. Lock all car doors until you verify your rider’s identity.
You can confirm the rider’s name matches what is on your app through either window before unlocking your vehicle.
