As a rideshare driver, driving through different areas of New York and New Jersey can be  a common activity for you. Unfortunately by using E-ZPass tolls, this increases the chances you may receive a ticket for violating one of their rules.

Here are some of the penalties that you should make sure to avoid:

  • Toll Evasion: if you drive through a toll lane without a valid E-ZPass tag mounted in your vehicle.
  • Insufficient Funds: if your account is below zero and you drive through an “E-ZPass Only” Lane.
  • Class Mismatch: if the vehicle class of the E-ZPass tag you are using does not match that of the vehicle you are driving.
  • Speeding: if you drive through the toll lane at a speed over the posted limit.

What To Do If You Have Received A Toll Violation

If you receive a violation that you would like to pay, detach the lower portion of the violation notice and mail it to E-ZPass along with your payment. You can also pay online here

If you receive a violation that you would like to dispute, complete “Section C” located on the back of your violation notice and mail it into E-ZPass, or fax it to them at 1-718-816-0762.

What Will Happen If I Do Not Take Action On My E-ZPass Violation?

If your first violation notice is not responded to, you will be charged a late fee of $50 for every violation on your notice. Too many late fees can result in the suspension of your vehicle registration or exclusion from MTA bridges and toll facilities.
