As a rideshare driver, your job requires you to be behind the wheel for an extended period of time. Prolonged sitting, low-frequency vibrations, and poor postures while driving can lead to back pain.
You should not have to suffer. There are simple driving habits and effective stretches you can do to ensure you don’t run into problems in the future.
Tips for Preventing Back Pain While Driving
- Adjust your seat and headrest so that your steering wheel is within easy reach.
- This will reduce stress on your neck, lumbar, wrists, and shoulders.
- Center your seat and roll up a sweatshirt & place it behind your lower back.
- This will reduce lumbar stress and improve back support.
- Adjust your steering wheel grip to a 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock position, and rest your elbows on your vehicle’s armrests.
- This will alleviate upper back pain.
- Adjust your mirrors while sitting up straight, so you don’t have to twist or move to see them.
- You should only need to move your eyes to see out of your mirrors.
