As of November 1, 2021, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the processing times for an Application for a Certificate of Citizenship could take:

  • 8 months to 15.5 months at the New York City field office
  • 10 to 27.5 months at the Brooklyn field office
  • 8 to 16.5 months at the  Queens field office

If you have an application for a Certificate of Citizenship or another immigration case being processed, there is an easy way to check on the status using a laptop or mobile phone with the USCIS Case Status Online Tool.

Immigration Case Status

Using the Case Status Online Tool, you can find out what the last step that was taken on your case and the next steps are going to be. You might also find reminders to keep your address current and how to ask any questions you might have.

Some Helpful Tips

To check the status of an application using the USCIS online tool:

  • You will need to have the Case Receipt Number. Your receipt number begins with three letters, (for example, EAC, WAC, LIN, SRC, MSC, or IOE) and then followed by 10 numbers.. You can find it on any notices of action that you have received from the USCIS.
  • When you enter the receipt number, make sure you DO NOT include the dashes (“-”) but DO include all the other characters, such as any asterisks (“*”).
  • There is also another “Enter Another Receipt Number” field which allows you to check other cases.
  • Finally, to stay informed about your case, you can create a Personalized Account on the USCIS website. This will allow you to get the most recent updates on your case, as well as the last five actions that were taken.

Using the USCIS Case Status Tool and creating the Personalized Account is free. If you have any other questions or concerns you can also contact the USCIS at 1(800) 375-5283.
